Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowering Youth for Community Health Impact
These issues emerged from the problems I observed during my clinical attachments, community rural attachments, and most of all my experience in the Family medicine Unit (presently known as the Primary Health Care Center, which contains a bigger capacity and is anticipated to supply high-quality essential wellbeing care to financially distraught parts of our community on everyday premise for around 200 patients) and clinical connections at subsidiary clinics.
During my time there I perceived poor medical literacy among patients that came there for care as well as dishonorable and ineffectual pharmaceutical and therapeutic utilization of drugs and medical equipment used for care, such as a metered-dose inhaler (MDI), which may be a gadget that conveys a particular sum of drugs to the lungs within the frame of a brief burst of aerosolized medication that's regularly self-administered by the understanding through inward breath. (In our setup, it is the foremost regularly utilized conveyance gadget for treating Asthma, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and other respiratory disarranges.)
Given the context of my observations, my Millennium Fellowship project will require me to explore these observations through collaborative projects with students at my university. We will produce health information leaflets in languages patients understand (Amharic and Afan Oromo), highlighting the most common health issues in our area. Another goal of this project is to create demonstration videos on metered dose inhaler use in asthmatics, self-foot examination in diabetic patients, and medication advice for chronic non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and asthma. Our flyers and demonstration videos are reviewed by experts in the field before appearing on waiting room screens, social media platforms, and the university's website.
