Millennium Fellowship Project: on courage. (card deck)

"on courage. (card deck)" is a 52-card card deck that uses detailed art, augmented reality, animation, and narrative to raise funds and awareness for the Ugandan LGBTQ+ community. The deck tells the stories of four Ugandan LGBTQ+ activists and the greater Ugandan LGBTQ+ community. The card designs will be detailed in an intricate, symbolic fashion inspired by tarot card decks, and with the augmented reality component, the user will be able to scan a card and watch the art come alive, with written information floating around it. All the profits made off this project will be donated to an organization committed in mission and in practice to the protection and well-being of the Ugandan LGBTQ+ community.

About the Millennium Fellow

Suubi Magoola is a sophomore majoring in Computer Science and Animation, with a minor in Africana Studies. Growing up, Suubi moved over a dozen times across the USA and Uganda, before landing in Boston, Massachusetts to attend school at Northeastern University. Their nomadic lifestyle developed their interests in culture, technology, art, and storytelling. These interests sustain their project, in which they garner support for the first community that made them feel truly at home: the international LGBTQ+ community. Suubi dedicates their undergraduate and graduate career to developing their skills as an emerging artist, software engineer, and activist.
