Millennium Fellowship Project: IGH: Improving Medical Supply Access in Ghana

A significant issue facing low-resource healthcare facilities is access to medical equipment due to its high cost, difficulty of importation, and the commonality of single-use consumables. The organization Innovators for Global Health (IGH) works to address medical supply deficits resulting from these issues by designing low-cost, locally-manufacturable alternatives tailored to the needs of under-resourced healthcare facilities. IGH's recently completed on-the-ground needs assessments in Ghanaian healthcare facilities resulted in the identification of multiple, specific deficiencies that could be addressed through alternatives designed with local, low-cost materials. Additionally, this visit spawned a partnership between IGH and the University of Ghana. This project aims to develop solutions to the identified gaps through collaboration with Ghanaian engineering students to sustainably improve care in under-resourced Ghanaian medical facilities.
