Millennium Fellowship Project: Propining institutional designs as a means to advocate climate justice
1)Excessive Tax payment made by Corporates to government can be reduced and
diverted to environment/social welfare made by private undertakings ( which the
government would have otherwise done, but now with increased transparency and
accountability).
2) Proposal : Reduce existing slab rates, mandate more CSR so that the undertakings
which deplete the resources re-compensate and finally create a platform which
connects the sustainable initiative's funds requirement with Corporate fund
availability.
3) Scheme: [ (Existing Tax Liability – Proposed Tax Liability) = Availability of liquid
surplus amount available for CSR activities/NGO/Sustainable Ventures Investments and
Funding, management of their portfolio services. Consumer behavioural shifts indicates
more towards sustainability, thus corporates can even go forward and use the money
to invest in - Social Stocks, Social Impact Investments and start ups alternatively .
About the Millennium Fellow
PS Swarnalatha is a final year Law student of Symbiosis Law School, Pune, India. She is an avid researcher and finance enthusiast. Though hailing from a background of core finance and law, through this project she wishes to address her long felt aspirations for strengthening up institutional support, government designs and call for international mechanisms in the wake of tax consciousness to support, help and sustain various environmental and social welfare driven schemes and initiatives.
