Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Kaitiakitanga
Under the United Nations Millennium Fellowship Program, we initiated our project titled “Kaitiakitanga”. Project Kaitiakitanga had two main objectives:
1. It aims to create a policy for the University wherein it will aim to set up an institutional mechanism allowing students to pass-on their books, case prints and other study materials to the junior batches, so as to save the resources and huge costs associated with it. In this way, at the end of every semester, all the study materials, books, newspapers, and any other paper material will be collected and will be re-used by the junior batches or delivered to recycling plants.
2. Furthermore, for the paper material which has already been discarded so far and lying in the Hostel premises, we will be collecting all such material and give that to the local NGOs/Scrap Dealers, thus, serving as a fundraiser and all the funds generated will be utilized to provide stationary and necessary study materials to the students living in the nearby slum areas.
This project is covered under the dimensions of United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 4, 10, 11 and 13, providing for Quality Education, Reduced Inequalities, and Climate Action respectively and United Nations Academic Impact Principle 9 promoting sustainability through education.
