Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Vidya Shakti (Empowering Education for Tribal Girls)
Project Vidya Shakti is a transformative 6-month initiative operating under the United
Nations Millennium Fellowship. The project is centered on addressing the high middle
school dropout rates among tribal girls in Jharkhand, India. The multifaceted approach
involves tackling key barriers to education, including poverty, cultural norms, and the
absence of role models. Through financial support, changes in cultural norms,
provision of role models, and offering academic and life skills support, Vidya Shaktiaims to create sustainable interventions that empower these young girls and enhance
their access to education.
About the Millennium Fellow
Kanashya Abhisth is third year student of B.L.L.B (Hons) at National University of Study and Research in Law in Ranchi, Jharkhand, India. Abhisth is passionate about how the individual can have an impact on the society around him through his social work. As a person who spent his childhood seeing injustice in the society he wanted to bring a change in society, through his project he hopes to help those who need it the most.
