Millennium Fellowship Project: Locked Up and Forgotten: The State of Under-trial Prisoners in the State of Jharkhand

The project was based on the living conditions of the under-trial prisoners confined in the jails of jharkhand. As majority of these people belong to the marginalized part of the society who do not have adequate resources to pay for good legal services out of their own pockets, their cases are often sidelined and they end up serving years in prison while still being on trial. Our objective was to understand how the prison authorities are looking after them and to what extent they're being supported by the system while they are on trial.

About the Millennium Fellow

Koitoree Nag is a law student at NUSRL, Ranchi. Deeply passionate about what she does, she engages herself in work that strives to recognise and advocate for those who are often unheard and forgotten. Koitoree recognises that she comes from a unique position of privilege, and she aims to harness that in her quest to bring a positive change in the world.
In her free time, she can be found listening to music and with her nose in a book (she often walks into walls on accident, really) when she is not debating enthusiastically about settled prejudices that often shape one's worldview.
As a law student, Koitoree realises that the justice system often overlooks those powerless to speak up against injustice meted out to them. She hopes to harness the tides of change to give voices to the voiceless, and serve those who seek justice.
