Millennium Fellowship Project: The Brooklyn Urban Ecology Project
Our project is premised on the idea of creating a low-tech, high-visibility space to engage Brooklynites with their neighborhoods, connect to nature, and develop a skill set to continue gardening in their communities and at home. There is a wealth of research that has illuminated the many benefits of community-based gardening projects, and several other studies have also proven the mental and physical health improvements to having a greater access to and integration of nature in one’s neighborhood. Through a series of educational workshops, community engagement events, and hands-on gardening exercises, we are aiming to help enrich the lives of those living in underserved parts of the borough and work towards fostering a more sustainable and green Brooklyn.
