Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowerment Initiatives for Teenagers

The title of my project is Empowerment Initiatives For Teenagers.
This project is designed to equip teenagers with skills that will help expand their horizons to explore new ideas, perspectives and opportunities to broaden their understanding of the world, empowering them to navigate it more effectively that would sustainably serve as a road map to financial independence and this project aligns with SDG 4 (Quality education).

My goal for this project was to create awareness whereby this skill serve as a vocational profession for the likelihood of students who may not be able to further their education also to serve as a bridge to extra income that can be issued towards a child’s education, considering the financial implications of tertiary students and the inability for families to adequately sponsor child or ward at a standard rate of education due to the economic devaluation.
And also to liaise with the school authority on the need to create a social club in their school curriculum where this skill knowledge is replicated to other students.

The reason I went for this project was because often times, when people reach out to children in orphanage homes and communities, they tend to mostly share food items, provisions, clothings and the likes. As much as this is very important and nice to do, having a skill at hand is also as important, as this will help them be creative and accountable (This way they are not being spoon fed but are taught on how to fish themselves). For any skill one has at hand, lives on with them.

My project encompassed training 15 students within the age range of 13-18 and the class of Senior Secondary School (SSS 1-3), Urban Day Grammar School, Ile-Ife with with skills such as Tye and Dye(Adire) with bead making and Mentoring Talk.
