Millennium Fellowship Project: Analysis of prostitution in India and the position of prostitutes in india

Human sexuality is a complex and multifaceted aspect of human life, often involving issues of consent, morality, and society norms. However, can it truly be classified as "rich" considering the detrimental impact it has on a substantial segment of the population? The delicate boundary between prostitution and rape continues to be a contentious topic in this discussion, giving rise to debates over the concept of consent, the ethical implications of sex work, the industry's perceived patriarchal origins, and broader moralistic notions that influence societal attitudes. The objective of this project is to analyse and evaluate the ambiguous boundaries of consent in prostitution, explore the ethical implications of the profession, question the patriarchal aspects of the industry, and take into account the broader moral perspectives that shape societal attitudes. Providing clear definitions of prostitution and rape:

Prostitution is a socio-economic phenomenon where individuals exchange sexual services for money or goods. It is a transactional relationship in which consenting parties willingly enter into an arrangement for their mutual advantage. Consent, a fundamental principle of this occupation, sets it apart from the repugnant act of rape, which entails engaging in sexual intercourse without the explicit and voluntary consent of one or more individuals. Although these concepts may seem straightforward, the intricate interaction of power dynamics, coercion, and societal views makes it challenging to distinguish between the two.
