Millennium Fellowship Project: ElConnect

There exists a huge communication gap in the case of elderly citizens in India – with over 71% of senior citizens in India facing harassment by their own family members and left in isolation, as stated in an article published by the ‘Economic Times’ in 2019.
In the year 2021 I had launched an online networking platform for elderly citizens called ‘ElConnect’. The main goal of the platform was to increase the number of people that interacted with elderly citizens so that the problem of isolation of elderly could be combated. I had conceptualised a straightforward application that would be easy to utilise and navigate for the elderly. An elderly person who lives alone could use the application to find and interact with locals who share their interests. Through my personal experiences, I came to realise that connecting elderly citizens with the younger generation would also be extremely beneficial provided that strict safety measures are in place.
