Millennium Fellowship Project: Say Yes To Cups
We aim to reduce the use of sanitary napkins and tampons with menstrual cups on a mass level. To achieve the same, we have opted for a three-pronged approach:
First, we have conducted ground level research on the harmful effects of non- sustainable menstrual management products and the benefits of menstrual cups as a safer and more environmentally sustainable method of blood collection.
Secondly, we use various methods to disseminate this information within the target audience, including but not limited to seminars and street plays (already achieved) and workshops, info-sessions, etc.
Third, to make the target group comfortable with the idea of using menstrual cups and help the menstruating people during the shift form sanitary pads by conducting workshops with medical professionals in the field.
We believe that it is important to provide menstruating populations with information regarding the drawbacks of common menstrual hygiene management methods and the impact they create on the environment, to better facilitate them to make informed decisions. The objective of SDG-12 is to substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse, and ensure that people everywhere have the relevant information and awareness for sustainable development and lifestyles in harmony with nature by 2030. By reducing the use of disposable period products through information dissemination, menstrual waste shall be reduced to a large degree, thus helping realise SDG-12.
