Millennium Fellowship Project: OpenGov
OpenGov is a platform encouraging political awareness and government transparency among people of voting age. In a democracy, for the government to be held accountable, its people need to be both politically literate and resistant to misinformation and propaganda. OpenGov aims to provide the people with one platform where they have easy access to a government's accomplishments, data and statistics, and a community where the sharing of reliable data, as opposed to reactionary data is encouraged.
OpenGov also aims to increase understanding of legal and political documents, and to this end aims to provide a platform where complex legal documents are simplified to something a layman can understand. In order to determine the reaction of each citizen towards a particular bill or act, OpenGov may also provide a voting system where users can vote for or against a particular act.
In essence, OpenGov aims to encourage political literacy and government transparency by providing easy access to important information from a wide variety of
sources.
About the Millennium Fellow
Hemasree Senthil, a junior at Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering, is diligently pursuing a computer science degree. Her ardor for women's rights and gender equality has been a lifelong commitment. With a deep-seated passion for women's health, Hemasree is an ardent advocate. Moreover, her proactive measures to mitigate her carbon footprint reflect her acute awareness of the pressing issue of global warming. An enthusiastic community participant, Hemasree consistently seeks opportunities to contribute and make a positive impact. Her proactive spirit embodies a drive to achieve even more.
