Millennium Fellowship Project: Lending A Hand Foundation

Barriers persist that disproportionately affect African American students, creating disparities in educational outcomes. Understanding and addressing these barriers is crucial for fostering a more equitable and inclusive education system. Young Black women, in particular, face unique challenges as they navigate their educational journey toward adulthood and secondary education. My project focused on the empowerment of black women as they leave highschool and enter adulthood. Navigating life is scary, and without the right resources it feels as if you’re going into life blind. Recognizing the importance of mentorship, I held a mentorship series and a panel discussion that serve as a powerful tool to empower and equip teens with the knowledge and resources they need to succeed in higher education.

About the Millennium Fellow

Saadya Abdulai is a junior Anthropology and Sociology student at Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia. With a passion for bringing social change, Saadya is very vocal about giving underserved kids the resources they need to grow and excel as they are our future. Through her project, she hopes to encourage African American girls in low income areas to start looking forward to their futures as her project aims to give them the tools they need to to grow after high school. After she graduates she will pursue a masters degree in psychology with hopes to start her own non-profit in the future.
