Millennium Fellowship Project: The Green Oxygen Initiative

The project aims to produce oxygen using microalgae and water. Microalgae are tiny single-celled organisms that can grow in water and produce oxygen as a by product of photosynthesis, which is the process by which they convert sunlight into energy. The oxygen produced can be used to tackle the problem of air pollution, which is one of the biggest issues in the community.
The project can also be used to treat wastewater from textile factories, which are in abundance in the city, using microalgae. The process of phytoremediation will allow microalgae to use the wastewater as a source of nutrients and then remove pollutants from the water. This will reduce the water pollution and have a positive impact on the drinking and irrigation water quality.
Taking it further, this project also has the potential to provide oxygen to people who are suffering due to air pollution in the city and can be used to provide relief in their respiratory illness. The oxygen produced can also be used to fill oxygen cylinders, which are used in hospitals and for tober purposes, if it is expanded further and production is scaled.
