Millennium Fellowship Project: FinanciaLIT
In 2019, a survey conducted by EVERFI asked 30,000 US college students from 440 schools about their readiness to manage money. The results were eye-opening – only 53% of students felt adequately prepared. Even more surprising, just 35% reported having taken a personal finance course. Digging deeper, other studies revealed that female students faced an even wider financial knowledge gap compared to their male counterparts. This discrepancy could have serious implications for women's future financial well-being and decision-making within households. This is where FinanciaLit comes in. It's not just a project; it's a mission to make financial education a mandatory part of higher education. Its main goal? To simplify financial education and give university students the tools they need to confidently navigate their financial decisions. FinanciaLit is tackling the existing financial knowledge gap among college students by creating a specialized financial literacy course designed for universities worldwide. The project is deeply committed to SDG 4: Quality Education, aiming to offer a free, comprehensive, targeted (and hopefully mandatory) financial literacy course so that every university student feels empowered when it comes to personal finance, investments, and budgeting. The course consists of 10 units (each with a built-in quiz to test student’s grasp of the content) and free templates (Excel Budget sheet, Excel Investment Sheet, ...) that can be used by students after the completion of the course and throughout the course of their lives and careers.
