Millennium Fellowship Project: Data Against Hunger
Project done together with Hosung An
1. Brief Summary
We plan to be an intermediary in gathering data of food banks and willing stores of catering services (restaurants, cafes, etc), designing a program that shares such data and advise food banks to deal with their deficits in an efficient way.
By contacting food banks of London, we hope to gather their inventory data on basic items and their surpluses or deficits. At the saame time, we will be reaching out to the catering services in London with a questionnaire, ranging from their consent to provide surplus foodstuffs to food banks, to the same inventory on foodstuffs which we'll be delivering to the food banks.
Arranging that same data on an excel sheet, we'll be fomenting a computer program that will be giving out specific advises to food banks to fill their deficit from where, based on the inventory (exact items, deficits and surpluses) as well as their proximity (judged by the postcodes gathered).
By gathering data, creating this program and distributing them to food banks of London, we hope to help the food banks of London be more efficient in their charitable work of helping the London's poorest.
2. Measurable goals
We believe that our successes can be measured by the number of food banks subscribing to our initiative - which we consider 15 a pragmatic goal - as well as the number of catering stores participating in our program - 30.
