Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Tabdeel

Project Tabdeel endeavors to narrow the Foundational Literacy & Numeracy gap among students in MCD Government schools of Kamla Nagar, North Campus.

Commencing with the Double Storey School at Kamla Nagar, the initiative embarked on a journey of school visits, fostering relationships with students, teachers, and principals. The school visits provided insights into operational challenges plaguing the schools, including concerning teacher-student ratios and the responsibilities shouldered by educators, which often detract from their primary role as educators.Through these visits, it became apparent that many students were not receiving the necessary attention and time required for their academic development.

Establishing a nurturing environment rooted in love and enjoyment, activities such as storytelling and drawing were integrated to facilitate comfort and engagement in learning during the first few interactions with the kids.

Conducting need assessment surveys among children vending stationary items in Kamla Nagar's streets and markets revealed significant learning disparities relative to grade levels. Consequently, focusing on class 4 and 5 students, the project aimed to bridge these gaps in their Foundational Literacy & Numeracy levels.

With the enlistment of over 20 volunteers registered on the Vidyanjali portal, the official government platform for volunteers, the initiative unfolded.

Volunteers, aligned with their expertise, dedicated 3-4 hours weekly to groups of 4-5 children, employing FLN modules to teach English, Hindi, and Mathematics.
Witnessing significant progress in some students, the endeavor not only augmented academic proficiency but also nurtured soft skills. The progress was evident in the leap from FLN Level 2 to Level 4 for several students.
