Millennium Fellowship Project: Iron.MFP

As per the Global Nutrition Assessment 2016, India ranks among the countries with the highest rate of the most common nutritional disorder- iron deficiency. Iron deficiency is also the leading cause of anaemia affecting millions worldwide in their day-to-day lives. Food insecurity tied with factors such as poverty and gender magnify the burden of anaemia onto the most vulnerable groups, with 57% of Indian women between the ages of 15-49 suffering from anaemia in 2019-21(NFHS-5).
Iron.MFP is a student-led initiative under the Millennium Fellowship Programme designed to alleviate this burden on Delhi women living in low-income households who cannot afford iron-rich diets. This project aims to immediately impact women's health by supplying iron supplements directly in-hand. Pamphlets are also provided to the target demographic to give dietary suggestions of iron-rich and Vitamin C food sources. The goal of treatment is to replenish iron stores and treat symptoms amongst at least 50 women.
