Millennium Fellowship Project: Operation Free Flow

A self sustaining and efficient way to fix the problem of man made and man influenced flooding.
Operation Free Flow (OFF) serves to alleviate the cause of flooding in a local community for now and in the future, larger communities as this project acts directly using already present aids and facilities put in place, as well as easy to find materials, so it is sustainable and replicatory.

It can be implented in three (3) main steps:
1. Identify the cause of the issue: This step helps to pinpoint the cause of flooding in that area like improper waste management, sand filled drainage systems, built structures on drainage systems and others.

2. Eradicate the cause of the issue: This step is concerned with removing the cause of flooding. In cases where biodegradable and non- biodegradable materials obstruct the flow of water, they are cleared away and properly disposed of by converting biodegradable substances to fertilizers and non-biodegradable materials are repurposed.

3. Public outreach: This step works hand-in-hand with the locals of the community.
It involves reaching out to the individuals living in that community, teaching them about proper waste management to ensure longevity and functionality of drainage systems, enlightening them on the dangers of building over drainage systems, the side effects of flood on houses, eventual effects of stagnant water to their health, amongst others.
Use of sight aids like posters and signs to remind people on proper waste management is also incorporated.

In the community this is to be implemented, issues like increased cases of water borne diseases, malaria, destruction of properties, inaccessibility, difficult commute in and out of the area resulting in extortion , is reoccurring and this project will help to stop it.

Rainfall is a natural occurence but flooding is a fixable problem.
