Millennium Fellowship Project: securehealth

Securehealth seeks to secure the health of members of her immediate community: university students, through advocacy for food security, thereby leading to availability of healthier food options.

I grew up hearing that food is medicine but it felt different when I became old enough to see the world for myself. It seemed like a phrase people said just for the sake of saying, not because they necessarily believed. Food, truly is medicine. Securehealth is a voice for that cause.

We are bringing the United Nation's Second SDG: Food Security and Zero Hunger, to life. With creative, innovative and consistent online campaigns and onsite advocacy, we will stop at nothing until students in our university understand the importance and role food security plays in their wellbeing.

About the Millennium Fellow

Mfor-Abasi Okoh, a Pre-Clinical Dentistry and Dental Surgery student of the University of Calabar, was born and has lived most of her life in Nigeria. She has been adversely affected by the dangers of food insecurity in her immediate environment. In her words, "It is impossible not to be passionate about a problem, when you have been a victim" Through her project, 'securehealth' she seeks to fight for a Nigeria where food secure. Her dream is to see a Nigeria where food insecurity becomes a talk of the past.

She firmly believes in the power young people have to create change, her favorite quote to affirm this belief is this, "No one can win the war individually. It takes the wisdom of the elders and young people's energy." Mfor wants to leave a footprint in the sands of time. She want to blaze the trail, make room and give way to the millions of young Nigerians that want to impact their society, positively. She believes that we should leave the world better than we met it and collectively, that dream is not far-fetched.
