The Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges project was curated to inform our society about the subject of inequality and the methods through which it can be alleviated in the society.

About the Millennium Fellow

Mary-Ann Shakwa Adam is a law student at the University of Maiduguri, Nigeria.
Shakwa is very passionate about gender equality mostly because she grew up in a society where gender discrimination against the girl child and women in general is very high.
Also the rate of abuse some girls pass through go unnoticed and even if it is being noticed, nothing is being done about it.
She hopes to make a change in that region and enlighten the young girls there on how to know when they are being maltreated or abused and also to seek help from legal and professional bodies.
