Millennium Fellowship Project: Empowered Teachers and Learners for Sustainable Futures Project (ETALP)

The SDGs 2023 Report stated that, the ongoing conflicts around world, the climate crisis, and the
lingering effects of the Covid-19 Pandemic and other global challenges are threatening to derail the
hard-earned progress towards the SDGs.
A fundamental shift in commitment, solidarity, financing and action is seriously needed to put the
world on a better path. The importance of devoting urgent attention to sustainable development is
critical for the future if the planet.
To ensure that, the World needs many more of its citizens, especially the next generation to have
the knowledge, values, and skills to better navigate this uncertain future, tackle its profound
challenges, and build more prosperous and resilient communities. With more than half of the world
population under the age of thirty, making it the biggest generation of young people the world have
ever seen, this puts educators and Learners in a truly unique position of influence to educate
millions of students and mobilize local actions to overcome the greatest challenges of the 21st
century and live a healthy and productive lives in harmony with nature.
Thus, Empowered Educators and Learners for Sustainable Futures (ETALP) project works to promote
transformative change in classrooms by integrating Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and
Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into teacher development programs. Through a two￾week-long teacher training program, educators will be introduced to the SDGs, action-based
pedagogy, and strategies to integrate ESD, global citizenship education, and 21st-century skills into
their classrooms. The project empowered educators to educate millions of students, who make up
the largest generation of young people, to overcome the challenges of the 21st century and lead
healthy, productive lives in harmony with nature. It also teaches children about the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs) and how they can take action to achieve them. The project will involve a
series of workshops and activities that will be held in schools and community centres.
The project goals:
Short-term goals
1. Train a cohort of educators in SDGs, ESD, and action-based pedagogy.
2. Integrate ESD, global citizenship education, and 21st-century skills in participating
classrooms.
3. Develop a resource toolkit for educators to continue implementing SDGs and ESD in their
teaching practice.
4. Increase awareness of the SDGs among young people.
5. Empower young people to take action to achieve the SDGs.
6. Develop partnerships with schools, community centres, and other organizations that work
with young people.
