Millennium Fellowship Project: The Smile Chain

The Smile Chain is a project aimed at providing and improving accessibility of oral healthcare services in the society. This will be achieved through liasing with professionals to provide education and volunteer services as well as partnering with stakeholders to provide incentives to promote oral healthcare. For a start, I'd like to oral healthcare materials to children of ages 6-13 in long-term care wards at the Kenyatta National Hospital who may not have access to proper dental care. The materials include a toothbrush and toothpaste with easy to read directions on how to take care of their oral health. I will create a team of 5 dental students who will help in distribution and sensitization with the target being distributing 25 kits every two weeks. To raise funds, I will request friends and family to support this project. Permission will be sought from the administration in charge of the wards before commencing.
