Millennium Fellowship Project: Waste Separation SmartCity Project

Concept Note

(SSAcity ) is the University of Nairobi Environment Club’s Climate Change project meant to
Prevent Pollution, Reduce inequality (zero hunger) and create Smart Cities all at once by using
innovation and sports to sensitize solid waste separation at source. We have people going hungry
every second and others throwing away food every second in the same locality, we are pairing
these two circumstances through two innovations that we’ve already made and two programs
namely;
. FoodBanks-To-Community Service Program
. A sports competition called ‘TakaTaka Ni Pato Nairobi Games’
The Innovations and Programs will sensitize and systematically ensure Solid Waste Separation At
Source at the household level by 2025.
The project will produce free street electricity, street WIFI, and street phone charging pots and create clean
environments, ensure organic solid waste is separated from inorganic solid waste at source, and create
a system that enables a circular economy with solid waste recycling, upcycling and reuse all
through the use of six components;
1) Tech-Bin(T-Bin) 2) iNairobi website/app 3) Latewa Arts CBO
4) Selected Street families; 5) A programme called FoodBanks-to-Community Service
6) A Sports Competition Program called ‘TakaTaka Ni Pato Nairobi Games’
