Millennium Fellowship Project: Techedge

Techedge is an innovative online learning platform designed to revolutionize students' educational experiences by integrating advanced technologies like transcription, optical character recognition (OCR), and retrieval-as-generation. The project's main goal is to make note-taking and studying more efficient and accessible for learners. Additionally, Techedge empowers both students and educators by enabling them to host AI models within their institutions, fostering a collaborative and sustainable learning environment.
The platform offers a range of features, including real-time lecture transcription, OCR for digitizing handwritten notes and textbooks, and retrieval-as-generation for generating meaningful content from study materials. This comprehensive toolset aims to enhance the learning process and help students better understand and retain information.
One of the key highlights of Techedge is its commitment to sustainability and inclusivity. By allowing users to host AI models locally, the platform reduces environmental impact and promotes a decentralized, community-driven approach to knowledge sharing. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequality), and SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals).
Alignment with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
Techedge directly contributes to SDG 4 by providing inclusive and equitable quality education through advanced learning tools. It also addresses SDG 10 by reducing educational inequalities, catering to diverse groups of learners, and promoting accessibility. The platform further aligns with SDG 17 by fostering partnerships and collaboration among educational institutions, stakeholders, and communities.

About the Millennium Fellow

Grivin Omayio is a senior law student at the University of Nairobi in Nairobi, Kenya. He is curious about how the law can support social justice and empower people in his country and beyond. He grew up in Nairobi, where he was inspired by the opportunity and impact that technology can give to people, especially those who face poverty and illiteracy. For his project, he is exploring how technology can help disenfranchised people access education and improve their well-being, as well as the legal frameworks and best practices for ensuring their rights and opportunities. He is looking forward to completing his degree and making a positive difference in the world.
