Millennium Fellowship Project: Imani
Imani, the Swahili translation of, Faith. Having been exposed to lots of information on mental health, self awareness and personality types and disorders thereof, I ventured on a journey to ensuring people, especially women and girls, get to own their mental state, get encouraged and have the highest level of self confidence. The death of my grandmother, just recently, motivated me to get this going. I am of the view that we as girls need to address our mental wellbeing as regards qualification in workplaces, academia, and dating and in future, parenthood. We ought to ensure we are stable enough to fight for our space at the table, and empower future generations of women not to think of themselves as lesser than, in society. I value the power of words, written and verbal. For this, I'd like to start a website that enables the youth, to write letters to their future selves, as regards family goals, career, friendships, dating and even retirement, to be read daily by them. This is aimed at ensuring the young girls stay educated in school, enforcing SDG 4, they live life in a manner that enhances their wellbeing, reduces poverty, increases economic empowerment in line with SDGs 1,3, 5, 8 and 10. I realize the need to reduce suicide rates by having a platform that reminds people of their positive side and the dreams they have. Such will be enhanced by working with reknowned health institutions to ensure we have mental stability among the youth. I have learnt the importance of adressing the inner youth, before all else. The letters will be in the form of encouragement letters, everyday, as per specified categories and once every few days, webinars will be held to encourage the community. The other issue I'd like to address is the habit to fall back on other options other than what we dream of, in life out of desperation or despair. I like seeing people, especially the youth, happy, and living their dream. For this, I chant, Dare to dream, do so boldly!
