Millennium Fellowship Project: Swachhagraha

Swachhagraha is a grassroots organization in India dedicated to promoting cleanliness and sanitation in the country. The name "Swachhagraha" combines two Hindi words - "Swachh," meaning clean, and "agraha," meaning insistence or perseverance.

The organization was launched in 2019 by a couple of my school friends and me. Our main aim was to mobilize communities and create awareness about the importance of cleanliness and sanitation. Today, Swachhagraha works with various stakeholders, including individuals, schools, colleges, local governments, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to promote cleanliness and sanitation. It encourages people to take ownership of their surroundings and adopt responsible behaviors, such as not littering, segregating waste, and using toilets.

While the organization conducts campaigns, events, and workshops to create awareness about sanitation and hygiene, I seek to take this to the next level by digitalizing our campaign. Although Swachhagraha can reach millions through in-house workshops, its cost is very high, and the outreach is limited. Therefore, I plan to develop a mobile application called "Swachhata" to enable citizens to report and track cleanliness-related issues in their communities. Additionally, I strive to promote the use of technology and innovation to find sustainable solutions for waste management. Digitalizing the campaign is a crucial step to maintain the continued success of this program, and it has multiple benefits, including increased transparency, accessibility, real-time monitoring and reporting, scaling up the campaign, and leveraging technology to empower citizens.

Swachhagraha is a vital initiative supporting India's efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal of ensuring access to water and clean sanitation for all. Our mission is to create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for everyone, and to ensure the program's continued success, we need your support.
