Millennium Fellowship Project: Design of a Stress Meter Based on the Electrodermal Activity

Project Description:
As a dedicated Biomedical Engineering student, I led a groundbreaking project focused on designing an affordable stress meter based on Electrodermal Activity (EDA) for low-middle-income countries (LMICs), with a primary focus on Zimbabwe.
Acknowledging the financial constraints prevalent in LMICs, I collaborated with mental health organizations such as the Zimbabwe OCD Trust, CBM Global, and Pamumvuri to gain crucial insights into stress management challenges in resource-limited settings. Despite financial limitations, I adopted a cost-effective approach, utilizing computer simulations to design and accurately capture the stress meter's functionality.
Recognizing the therapeutic power of music, I composed pieces dedicated to mental health and stress reduction, disseminating them through social media and community events. Community engagement played a pivotal role in the project's success, with live shows during mental health campaigns facilitating discussions and providing valuable feedback on the simulated device.

While physical production faced challenges, I actively sought input from mental health professionals and potential users, refining the meter's design to ensure it was intuitive, accessible, and seamlessly integrated into daily lives. Overcoming financial barriers necessitated creative problem-solving, leading me to research low-cost sensor options and explore alternative manufacturing methods.

Partnerships with local organizations and sponsors proved instrumental in securing funding for further development, enabling progress in the project. In conclusion, my innovative approach to developing an affordable stress meter showcases unwavering dedication to improving mental health accessibility and finding creative solutions in challenging circumstances.
