Millennium Fellowship Project: Relief After Disaster
Relief After Disaster is a nonprofit organization founded by me in 2020 after Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico, leaving the island in disrepair. Since then, it has worked to advocate for marginalized island communities recovering from natural disasters. It still operates at its original branches at high schools in Puerto Rico and Miami. Our next plan is to host an art exhibit and auction X fashion show hybrid in collaboration with the Yale Environmental Coalition. All the proceeds will go to direct climate relief organizations and be tax deductible under a 501c(3) nonprofit.
We plan on inviting talent from Yale to present at this event, including various singers and musicians. Currently, we have a lineup of Yale pianists and singers from acapella groups like the Alley Cats. Not only will this event serve as a nostalgic reunion for Yale alumni, but it will also be a spectacular display of visual and musical talent. We will provide refreshments and hors d'oeuvres at the event.
A focal point of this night is advocacy, and the pieces displayed will touch upon topics of the climate emergency, such as climate gentrification, Latin America climate emigration, climate change science, climate hope, and climate mental health. At the same event, we will have student designers showcase their sustainable and symbolic pieces through a fashion show.
