Millennium Fellowship Project: Autonomous Blind Examiner Machine
The Autonomous Blind Examiner Machine uses a combination of hardware and software components that interact seamlessly. It starts by capturing an image of the exam paper through a camera, which then sends the image to be processed. Using text recognition, the machine reads the question out loud, so the student can hear it. When the student is ready to answer, they speak into the machine’s microphone, and it recognizes their answer. Lastly, we use a writing mechanism controlled by an Arduino to transcribe the spoken answer directly onto the paper. In simpler terms, we’re combining components like a camera, a microphone, and a speaker with the processing power of a Raspberry Pi and an Arduino. Together, these parts will make it possible for blind students to take exams in a way that’s independent and supportive of their needs.
