I do this work because I believe every individual, regardless of their challenges, deserves the opportunity to thrive. Together, we can create a world where no one is left behind." "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Deaf-Assit

In a reality where fewer than 40% of Nigerian deaf children attend primary school, with limited access to specialized education, DeafAssist emerges as a beacon of hope. This AI-powered robot bridges the gap between silence and education, empowering the hearing-impaired with greater access to learning, social inclusion, and employment opportunities. DeafAssist facilitates two-way communication, translating sign language into speech, text, and 3D avatars, and translates speech into sign language, text and 3D avatar as well. Augmented with advanced language models, it enables real-time interaction and learning enabling the deaf to pose questions in real time and get them answered immediately. Scalable to diverse settings, including hospitals and conferences, DeafAssist fosters seamless communication, contributing to an inclusive society aligned with SDG 4. In summary, DeafAssist revolutionizes education and communication, enhancing the quality of life for the hearing impaired in Nigeria and beyond.
