Millennium Fellowship Project: My Mental Health Matters
On November 6, 2024, the project "My Mental Health Matters: The Role of Mental Health in Enhancing Academic Excellence" was executed at the Professor Iya State Library (CRC). This impactful initiative aimed to address the mental health challenges faced by secondary school students (SS1-SS3) and highlight the critical role mental well-being plays in achieving academic success.
The program brought together students and educators from five schools, creating a platform to raise awareness, encourage dialogue, and combat the stigma surrounding mental health. Expert speakers delivered insightful presentations on topics such as understanding mental health, identifying and managing stress, the connection between mental health and academic performance, the dangers of drug abuse, and the influence of moral decadence on youth behavior.
Engagement was a key aspect of the program. Students actively participated in interactive sessions, including trivia challenges, discussions, and a Q&A panel. These activities were designed to foster curiosity and ensure a deeper understanding of mental health issues. Handmade gifts were awarded to students who stood out in participation, further motivating them to contribute.
The event also emphasized community development as a cornerstone for promoting mental health awareness. By creating a collaborative atmosphere, the project highlighted the roles of schools, families, and local communities in providing support systems for young people.
Through this initiative, students gained valuable insights into maintaining mental wellness, overcoming challenges, and building resilience, all of which contribute to their academic and personal growth. The project successfully laid the foundation for continued advocacy and community engagement in addressing mental health among youth.
