" I am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it offers a unique platform to amplify my passion for sexual and reproductive health rights. I do this work to ensure that everyone, regardless of their circumstances, has access to the care and information they deserve. Together, we can create a world where every person’s health and rights are respected and protected. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Menstrual Health & Hygiene Drive in Northern Rwanda
This project, spearheaded as part of the Millennium Fellowship under SDG 3.7, aimed to bridge the gap in menstrual health and hygiene education for high school girls in rural Northern Rwanda. Recognizing the challenges of limited access to menstrual products and education, the initiative provided critical resources and knowledge to empower young women.
In collaboration with Her Community and GhurlPod, the project raised 500,000 Rwandan francs to fund hygiene essentials and educational activities. A partnership with Kosmotive Rwanda enabled the distribution of reusable pads, lasting up to eight months, alongside other personal care items such as toothpaste and toothbrushes.
The school visit included interactive sessions demonstrating proper use and care of the reusable pads, along with lessons on maintaining hygiene. Facilitated in Kinyarwanda, the sessions created a safe space for students to ask questions and openly learn about menstrual health.
The project impacted over 100 students, providing them with practical tools to stay in school and fostering confidence in managing their health. By addressing stigma and misinformation, this initiative empowered young girls to make informed choices, ensuring their education and well-being remain uninterrupted. The project reflects the transformative power of collective action in advancing sexual and reproductive health rights.
