" am excited to be a Millennium Fellow because it amplifies my commitment to empowering women and transforming lives through sustainable skills and job creation. This fellowship offers a platform to scale our impact and inspire systemic change in communities like the one I came from." "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Hope Through Education
The project aims to support children aged 4-10 from low-income families in the community by providing foundational educational resources and support. Over the past few months, Millennium Fellows contributed by offering valuable advice and insights, helping with lesson planning and creative activities. Their guidance enabled us to improve learning sessions, parental workshops, and storytelling activities.
My goal is to equip children with essential literacy and communication skills, empowering them to break the cycle of poverty. This initiative remains ongoing, with plans to strengthen community engagement, support families, and create a culture of learning that benefits the entire community.
About the Millennium Fellow
Sanstache Umutesi grew up in a village near Kigali, where women and girls faced significant abuse and poverty. Motivated by the harsh conditions in her community, she founded a cooperative that teaches women to create handbags, aiming to provide them with valuable skills and job opportunities. Through her initiative, Umutesi has made a meaningful impact on local empowerment and economic development
