" Personal experience drives my work. As a single mother who had her child in my
second year of university, it really proved difficult for me to continue pursuing the
degree that I was undertaking at the time, this is despite the fact that I had a
supportive family, now imagine those who are younger than I was...still in their early
teens , who are forced to drop out of school and married off to older men....I look
forward to learning from the Millennium Fellowship , gaining skills that will help me drive
my passion for this course forward. That education is a right, even for young mothers. "

About the Millennium Fellow
Prudence Wawira Muchira is a third year bachelor of nursing student at Amref
International University. She was born and raised in Nairobi city, Kenya. For as long as
she can remember she has always been passionate about women advancing their
careers, especially young mothers. She has a soft spot for young mothers who are
struggling to strike a balance between nurturing their children and advancing their
careers. Her passion lies within trying to ease the burden for these mothers, such that
they do not have to give up on their education in order to raise their children. They can
have both a happy family life and satisfactory career
