Final Report: Raising Awareness Among Young Girls About Women’s Health
Introduction
In rural areas of Afghanistan, the lack of knowledge about menstruation and menstrual hygiene causes significant physical and psychological challenges for girls and women. This project aimed to address these issues through education and awareness programs.
Objectives
• To increase awareness about menstrual hygiene.
• To reduce the stigma and shame surrounding menstruation.
• To prevent health issues caused by poor hygiene practices.
Activities
1. Designed and distributed educational brochures.
2. Conducted small awareness sessions in rural areas.
3. Introduced hygienic practices and distributed sanitary pad samples.
Outcome
The project was well-received and successfully improved understanding of menstrual hygiene among girls and women. It marked the beginning of breaking taboos and enhancing women’s health in Jaghori.
About the Millennium Fellow
I am Soraya Zahidi, a student at the Asian University for Women, focusing on women’s rights, particularly in relation to their health as they reach adolescence. My project centers on raising awareness and advocating for improved support systems for young women during this critical stage. I am committed to creating lasting change and empowering women in my community. After my studies, I plan to continue working in the field of women’s health and rights.
