Millennium Fellowship Project: Pawsitive Care
Pawsitive Care is a compassionate initiative dedicated to improving the welfare of stray animals in Chattogram, Bangladesh. Stray dogs and cats in the region often face severe challenges such as food scarcity, neglect, and a lack of access to medical care. To address these pressing issues, Pawsitive Care focuses on providing regular nourishment, and medical support, and fostering a culture of empathy and coexistence.
As an initiative of the project, approval was successfully obtained from the Asian University for Women (AUW) to collect surplus food from university dining halls. This initiative ensures consistent nourishment for stray animals while simultaneously reducing food waste, directly supporting SDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production. This surplus food is redistributed to stray animals, ensuring they receive consistent nourishment while simultaneously reducing food waste. This effort directly supports the UN Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 15: Life on Land by promoting the humane treatment of animals and fostering peaceful coexistence, and Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production by minimizing waste through purposeful redistribution.
Beyond addressing immediate needs, the initiative incorporates essential medical care for stray animals. By providing treatment for injuries, and illnesses, and necessary vaccinations, Pawsitive Care aims to alleviate their suffering and improve their quality of life. The project also prioritizes community involvement, engaging AUW students and residents in workshops, volunteer activities, and educational programs to raise awareness about animal welfare.
Pawsitive Care not only aids strays but also strengthens community bonds, fostering a sense of collective responsibility and empathy. This initiative contributes to building a safer and more harmonious environment where humans and animals coexist peacefully. By combining sustainable practices with education and compassionate action, Pawsitive Care inspires long-term social and environmental impact in Chattogram and beyond.
