" "If small drops of water can combine , together to build a huuuuge ocean , small initiatives we all take in our everyday lives can combine together to make a large difference !! Millennium Fellowship gives me an oppurtunity to contribute my small change , and together as a community bring about that big difference !!" "
Millennium Fellowship Project: BringASmile Initiative
The rapid digitization of everyday tasks has highlighted a stark digital divide, particularly among blue-collar workers who often face barriers to accessing digital tools and online resources. Limited knowledge of essential digital skills can inhibit these individuals' ability to leverage technology for personal and professional development. Recognizing this gap, the BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus Millennium Fellowship cohort partnered with SmartLife, a dedicated local NGO, to address these challenges through targeted educational workshops.
The motivation behind this initiative stemmed from the realization that the digital world offers numerous opportunities that remain inaccessible to many due to lack of basic training. During conversations with community leaders and through surveys conducted by SmartLife, it became evident that a significant portion of the labour force expressed interest in learning how to navigate digital platforms but had limited means to do so. The cohort believed that equipping these workers with digital skills could bridge this knowledge gap, empowering them to engage more confidently with technology and improve their quality of life.
About the Millennium Fellow
"Big difference is brought about by small changes .. " a little narrative of Siddharath Nagesh , who lives by the same quote. Siddharath is a sophomore student who is passionate about making a difference and bringing positive impact to the community. He has been living in Dubai , for the last 18 years and empathizes with the hardships of the workers. Their lack of knowledge of basic soft skills like building cv or using / booking is exploited. Siddharath wants to change this, but finds it hard to build credibility to his work. With Millennium Fellowship he now has an oppurtunity to make stronger impacts. He is motivated to bring a change for the greater good :)
