Millennium Fellowship Project: Project 1Billion

PROJECT 1BILLION focuses mainly on the Impacts of obesity on reproductive health. According to WHO, the number of obese people in the world is approximately 1 billion. A very important impact that will be given extra focus will be Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), which is a hormonal disorder, which has its onset during adolescence and gradually progresses. This is usually seen in women who have a similar family history, have Type II Diabetes Mellitus or have a very poor lifestyle. Poor lifestyle and unhealthy eating habits may lead to obesity. So lifestyle and obesity are important risk factors for reproductive diseases in both males and females. In males, obesity may increase the risk of infertility and other related sexual issues. This project therefore aims at educating the boys and girls of the reproductive age group about the risk factors like obesity that may predispose them to reproductive issues like PCOS in women or infertility. This project also aims at encouraging girls to look out for warning symptoms of PCOS and importance of getting tested immediately. It educates them about the management of the symptoms of the disease and necessary lifestyle modifications like daily exercise to cut down on excess weight.

About the Millennium Fellow

Padma Priya, a 2nd-year MBBS student at Bangalore Medical College. Born and raised in Bangalore Karnataka, my journey into the world of medicine has been her passion, dedication, and an unwavering desire to serve people.
From a young age, she was drawn to the idea of helping others. She would watch in awe as doctors in her local clinic provided care and comfort to those in need. It was in those moments that she realized that she wanted to be someone who could make a difference in the lives of others and not just a bystander The road to medical school was not easy, but it was a challenge she embraced wholeheartedly. She spent countless hours studying, preparing for entrance exams. When she was accepted into Bangalore Medical College, She felt a sense of accomplishment, but she also knew that the journey had just begun.
Each day as a medical student she gets to see many new challenges and opportunities to learn, and she approaches them with the same passion that fueled her decision to enter this field. As she proceeded through her course the desire to serve people grew in her.
Beyond the classroom, she was involved in many community outreach programs. She believed that healthcare should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their socioeconomic status. Volunteering at health camps and conducting awareness programs in rural areas has given her a firsthand understanding of the healthcare challenges faced by many in our country. These experiences have only strengthened her resolve to contribute meaningfully to society.
Medicine was more than just a career for her; she thought it was a way to give back to the community that had supported her during her journey. She was committed to become a compassionate and competent doctor. The journey ahead is long, but with passion, dedication, and a deep commitment to serve people, she is confident that she'll achieve her dreams and try to build a more healthier society
