" My mom wrote a poem (in Bengali) when she was young which translates, "I am sad, as there is no human in this world without sadness." And the worst type of sadness comes when we lose a loved one forever, especially from suicide. Hence, I am looking forward to be a Millennium Fellow in order to gain the exact skills I need to prevent as many deaths as I can caused by self harm, eventually leading to reducing the number of ultimate sadness a human being can receive in this world. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Resisting Affliction, Nurturing Ardor (RANA)

Resisting Affliction, Nurturing Ardor (RANA) is a mental health initiative, a project designed by me that is dedicated in alleviating and preventing depression among students by adopting a comprehensive approach to enhance mental well-being. By creating spaces for dialogue, sharing, and healing, RANA aims to empower students to live fulfilling, enriched lives through mental health education, support, and proactive strategies.

About the Millennium Fellow

Farhan Ishraq is an Economics Student, currently studies at BRAC University, based in Bangladesh. He was born in August 2004 in Dhaka, Bangladesh and has been residing in the city ever since. He is very determined to create a strong impact in the society regarding mental health, as he lost his father at a very young age, who died from schizophrenia. A mournful incident in his life has moved him deeply, for which he hopes to develop a project under his father's name, "RANA" and the full form of this abbreviation is Resisting Affliction, Nurturing Ardour, where the main motto is to eliminate the negative thoughts of a person which might lead to suicides, and developing the intention to live life with a peace of mind throughout the world in the near future, which might bring an impact in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the United Nations.
