" The Millennium Fellowship program serves as a catalyst, bringing together passionate students from diverse social and academic backgrounds, creating an ideal network, that is formed not just by action, but by innovation and creativity. I am excited to be a part of this initiative because I believe that when like-minded spirits meet, movements grounded in a deep respect for human rights become stronger, more persistent, and adaptable. Being able to contribute to this unmatched initiative, while also gaining the knowledge and resources to develop a unique, smart, and realistic project that reflects my experiences, would be invaluable. The challenges addressed by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, especially climate action, require the collective effort of dedicated individuals, and I look forward to finding these allies who share this commitment. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Climate Law Summer School

The Climate Law Summer School is a project, started by students at Bucerius
Law School years ago, targeting German speaking Law Students and trying to
help them find their way in climate law in order to help Germany become more
sustainable in the future. The pilot has started this summer and since autumn of
this year, the University has officially taken on the project and will continue the
work for at least three more years. The students will continue to participate in
building the project, by advising the university, helping out in marketing and giving
feedback for the curriculum. The project aims to support SDG 13.

About the Millennium Fellow

Noreen Azhar Bashayan is a driven and compassionate undergraduate student at Bucerius Law School in Germany, on track to graduate in May 2027. Growing up as a child of deaf parents with a father of immigrant background and a mother facing long-term unemployment, Noreen experienced firsthand the unique challenges that can arise in the educational journey. These early experiences instilled in Noreen a deep commitment to educational equity and social justice.
Throughout high school, she offered free tutoring to students and was involved with several NGOs promoting educational equity, recognizing the additional challenges posed by the lack of resources. Now, as a member of the Law Clinic at Bucerius Law School, she continues to advocate for those marginalized by society.
Noreen’s dedication to social justice extends beyond the realm of education, as she is deeply committed to the principles of sustainability. For her, sustainability is not merely an environmental concern but a profound issue of justice, especially towards vulnerable groups who often suffer the most from environmental degradation and climate change, yet have the least capacity to defend themselves. She views the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 13 on Climate Action, as a crucial framework for ensuring that the most vulnerable are not left behind.
