About the Millennium Fellow

Maxwell Mwalukanga is a dedicated third-year medical student at The Copperbelt University, Zambia’s top-ranking institution, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in medicine and surgery. His journey in the medical field has been profoundly influenced by personal loss, having tragically experienced the passing of two close relatives due to cardiovascular diseases. This experience inspired him to engage actively in community advocacy, raising awareness about the causes and prevention of non-communicable diseases.
Currently, Maxwell serves as the director of student affairs at Save the Pulse Initiative Africa, where he is committed to addressing critical health challenges and making a tangible impact. Additionally, he represents The Copperbelt University as the university representative for Medtalk Zambia, an association comprising 18 medical universities across Zambia, Botswana, Kenya, and Nigeria. In this capacity, Maxwell collaborates with a team to coordinate and lead intellectual discussions involving over 3,000 medical students, fostering a collaborative environment for analyzing complex medical cases.
With a keen interest in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery, Maxwell aspires to make a life-saving difference in the operating room. He is driven by the belief that each life saved contributes to the betterment of the world.
