" I believe that being a part of the Millennium Fellowship program will help me adapt better to the changing situation on animal cruelty though the end result is the same i.e animals getting hurt. I will be able to recieve proper guidance on how to eradicate this issue for good since I will be interacting with industry professionals who have an enormous wealth of knowledge about the same. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Animals: Friends or Foe

Biodiversity consists of the flora and fauna in a
particular area. While in rural areas, people are
mindful about their cattle and other animals, in
urban areas there are less of cattle and more of
stray dogs, cats and different kinds of birds.
After all, it is the rapid urbanisation which has
caused animals to be left without a home.
People even import their pets from abroad and
leave them on the streets when they cant cater to
their unique needs. This results in a huge influx
of strays and hence they form an integral part of
the urban biodiversity. In times of rapid climate
change and pollution, animals without a home
suffer the most. It is important that people be
taught how to take care of animals in need and
respond to the the different behaviours they
exhibit. People need to be taught general cues of
animal behaviour and not be harsh or hurt
animals because they try to steal food, or loiter
around. There have been instances when stones
or hot water have been thrown at the animals.
The city dwellers, have forgotten the importance
of co existence with the animals in their
surroundings.
