" Being able to create social impact and help as many people as possible is something that I wish to do regardless of what career I choose. I wish to take all the projects I take up to be effective and efficient and have far reaching implications. I believe the Millennium Fellowship can aid me in gaining those skills and to further improve upon my already existing skill set. It would allow me to communicate with like minded individuals and provide me exposure to newer experiences and people. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Project Milan

Project Milan is a social impact initiative dedicated to supporting the needs of elderly individuals by collaborating with old age homes to foster a more compassionate and inclusive society. According to the United Nations Population Division, India is undergoing rapid population ageing, with the number of elderly citizens (aged 60 and above) expected to reach nearly 300 million by 2050. This demographic shift brings significant challenges, including social isolation and loneliness, particularly in urban areas where changing family dynamics and migration patterns have weakened traditional social support systems. In response to these challenges, Project Milan aims to organize interactive sessions to rekindle interests, evoke cherished memories and cultivate a vibrant sense of community and joy among elderly residents. Our activities include celebrating popular festivals, engaging in traditional crafts like knitting and weaving, enjoying music, playing games, hosting culinary sessions, and conducting diya-painting workshops to build meaningful connections with the residents. Additionally, we are committed to ensuring the mental and physical well-being of the elderly by incorporating regular healthcare checkups into our initiative.

About the Millennium Fellow

Aastha Kapoor lives by the quote “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.” She is a kind, empathetic and caring individual who loves to volunteer and help those in need. This practice has been instilled in her since she was a young child and she’s never let go of it since. She’s taken up various small projects since then and has expanded over the years to take on greater projects and responsibilities. Apart from this, she prides herself on her organisational skills in the professional sphere but unfortunately those same skills are lacking in her room. She has the curiosity of the cat and is always looking for various opportunities to learn and broaden her horizons.
