Millennium Fellowship Project: AAFTAB

AAFTAB, meaning "Sun/Sunlight" in Persian, is a social impact initiative aimed at empowering underprivileged children in government schools of Delhi, India, by addressing critical gaps in their informal education. The project aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) 4 (Quality Education) and 13 (Climate Action) and seeks to nurture a generation of well-rounded, environmentally conscious individuals. The core mission of AAFTAB is to provide under-resourced children with essential knowledge and skills beyond traditional academics, focusing on mental health awareness and environmental education. These areas are often neglected in their formal schooling but are vital for their holistic development and future success. Collaborating with Zero Waste Circular Solutions, AAFTAB has introduced innovative sustainability initiatives, such as the ZWC Bank within Rohini Sarvodaya Co-ed Vidyalaya. This facility educates nearly 100 students on resource management and encourages them to actively participate in recycling efforts. Students earn rewards like free stationery by depositing recyclable waste, tracked through an app-based system. High-performing contributors are celebrated with dynamic certificates and recognition during assemblies, fostering enthusiasm for sustainability practices. All collected waste is recycled, integrating students into a circular economy while promoting environmental stewardship. Beyond environmental education, AAFTAB plans to incorporate mental health sessions to further support the personal growth and well-being of its beneficiaries. Inspired by personal experiences and a lifelong commitment to service, AAFTAB reflects my vision to reduce educational inequalities and empower children to realize their full potential. Already, the initiative has made a measurable impact, with students demonstrating heightened awareness of environmental issues and actively engaging in sustainable practices. AAFTAB shines as a beacon of hope, illuminating the path toward a brighter, more equitable, and sustainable future for underprivileged children.
