" I feel that I have a duty to leave the Earth in a better situation I found it and so does every other person. As a science enthusiast, I see a possibility to use science to achieve such goals. Millennium Fellowship will prepare me to achieve my goals by not also shaping my skills, but also showing me a community of eager students with similar aspirations. I believe that finding such a community is invaluable. "

Millennium Fellowship Project: Sustainable Material Development

I will use coffee grounds from an on-campus coffee shop as a substrate for mycelium (mushroom roots) cultivation. This mycelium will be used as a biomaterial to create sustainable coffee cups. The cups will be supplied to the on-campus coffee shop and later to a partner café outside the campus to improve the community's sustainability.
This project will propagate a desire to create a sustainable future and motivate students and staff to contribute even more. To make my research directly useful for the community, before the cups are fully utilized, I will also host events and discussions introducing my research and exciting science-based sustainable solutions.
Simultaneously, I will research the most efficient way to use coffee grounds for mycelium growth, with the aim of contributing to worldwide research on sustainable biomaterials production.
