Millennium Fellowship Project: AI-Driven Climate Modeling in Peru

The project, Sustainable Urbanization and Climate Action: A Data-Driven Analysis of the Chancay Mega Port's Impacts in Peru, examines the environmental and socio-economic implications of Peru’s Chancay Mega Port, a transformative infrastructure project. By utilizing data analytics and machine learning, the project evaluates the port's impact on local ecosystems, urban growth patterns, and carbon emissions. This research provides actionable insights to support sustainable development strategies, ensuring that economic growth is balanced with environmental stewardship and community well-being. The project directly supports SDG 13 (Climate Action) by proposing data-driven policies and solutions to mitigate climate risks and promote resilience in the face of rapid industrialization.

About the Millennium Fellow

Renzo Balcazar is a dynamic and driven data science student at Duke Kunshan University, where he is pursuing a dual degree in Data Science and Interdisciplinary Studies. Originally from rural Peru, Renzo has a strong commitment to sustainability and education. His experiences have fueled his passion for developing data-driven solutions to address climate challenges like El Niño. Renzo has also taken on leadership roles, including serving as a Residence Assistant and mentoring students, with the aim of empowering others and fostering resilient communities. He aspires to further his contributions by integrating
