Millennium Fellowship Project: Safe water, Healthy Community
Safe Water, Healthy Community is a social Impact project carried out by the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2024 at our university, Ebonyi State University, Nigeria, inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. The project focused on teaching primary school pupils practical ways to maintain water safety and hygiene in their everyday lives.
The project involved educating young pupils on key health practices such as obtaining clean water, purifying unclean water, and adopting proper handwashing techniques. Additionally, the project incorporated lessons on waste management, including waste segregation, recycling, and responsible disposal methods, to keep their environment clean and safe.
To make a lasting impact, we provided the school with two 120-liter water containers fitted with taps, two buckets, and two handwashing liquid soaps. These items were given to help the pupils maintain good hand hygiene and put into practice what they learned during the sessions. The project aimed to empower these young learners with the knowledge and resources to improve their health and contribute to a cleaner, healthier community.
