Ebonyi State University | Abakaliki, Nigeria | Advancing SDG 6, SDG 3 & UNAI 9

" I am deeply passionate about both mental and environmental health, driven by the urgent need to address stigma and neglect in these areas, especially within my community. My work with the NDLEA on the War Against Drug Abuse campaign and my ongoing research on Medical Student Syndrome have been pivotal in creating awareness and fostering change. Additionally, my volunteering experience in a water, sanitation, and hygiene campaign has further reinforced my commitment to improving environmental health and sanitation. Being a Millennium Fellow offers me the platform to amplify these efforts, collaborate with like-minded individuals, and develop effective interventions. I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to a global movement that prioritizes both environmental sustainability and community well-being. "
Millennium Fellowship Project: Safe water, Healthy Community
Safe Water, Healthy Community is a social Impact project carried out by the Millennium Fellowship Class of 2024 at our university, Ebonyi State University, Nigeria, inspired by the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. The project focused on teaching primary school pupils practical ways to maintain water safety and hygiene in their everyday lives.
The project involved educating young pupils on key health practices such as obtaining clean water, purifying unclean water, and adopting proper handwashing techniques. Additionally, the project incorporated lessons on waste management, including waste segregation, recycling, and responsible disposal methods, to keep their environment clean and safe.
To make a lasting impact, we provided the school with two 120-liter water containers fitted with taps, two buckets, and two handwashing liquid soaps. These items were given to help the pupils maintain good hand hygiene and put into practice what they learned during the sessions. The project aimed to empower these young learners with the knowledge and resources to improve their health and contribute to a cleaner, healthier community.
